It gives me immense pleasure to share with you that in 1998 a young lady, who had passed her Intermediate examination, approached me for a teaching job. By the way I asked her why she is not continuing her studies. I was shocked to know that she was orphan and unable to meet both ends. I advised her to come tomorrow with her mother so that we can set up scholarship for her higher studies. Soon after she left, a friend of mine called from USA. I told him about this brilliant girl. He was kind enough to sponsor her education for next two years and same day transferred the funds. It encouraged me and I discussed the idea with my friends, who were running their educational institutions.

It was unanimously decided that we should start an organization, which will solely be responsible for awarding scholarships to needy but talented students. It was our considered opinion that by doing so it will eliminate the national talent loss. The scheme was initially started from Tehsil Kharian. In the very first year we granted scholarships to 46 talented but neglected girls and boys. Let me say “where there’s will there’s a way”. Now we have extended our program to whole of Pakistan and are providing scholarships to 825 boys and girls from Intermediate to Post graduate level including Medical and Engineering students irrespective of caste, creed and color.

Our focus and emphasis is on Science and professional education. Alfalah Scholarship Scheme is making progress by leaps and bounds. All my colleagues in the Board put heart and soul in the success of this organization. We at Alfalah are giving leg up to ultra-poor segment of society. I am confident that it will make them responsible citizens, reduce violence and hatred in the society. I take this opportunity to invite all Pakistani philanthropists living in or abroad to join hands with us in this noblest act and best charity in Pakistan because “Allah changed not the folk until they (first) change that which is in their hearts” (Al-Quran). It is only possible with the cooperation and support of our Donors and Sponsors to this wonderful cause. May God bless all of us.
